Kenneth Clayton Young, Jr., 87, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Webster at Rye.
He was born on September 10, 1934, in Norway, Maine to the late Kenneth and Berrita (Brown) Young, Sr.
Ken graduated from Portsmouth High School, class of 1953, he is also a graduate of New Hampshire Technical Institute, class of 1955. In 1957 he enlisted in the US Navy CB’s later becoming a member of the CB’s Reserves at PNSY. Ken was a member of the St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 56 F & AM, Washington Chapter No. 3, Davenport Council No. 5, Scottish Rites Bodies, Valley of Portsmouth & Dover, NH Consistory 32 degree of Nashua. He was also a former Captain of the Greenland Volunteer Fire Department, former assistant Scout master Troup #166 in Greenland, former member of the Portsmouth DeMolay and a member of DeWitt Clinton Commandry.
Prior to his retirement, Ken was employed as a carpenter and locksmith for the University of New Hampshire for over 30 years.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn P. Young, second wife Flora E. Young; stepsons Edward Talon, David Langton and Alan S. Langton; step grandsons Scott Langton, John “Johnny” Irving; niece Jayne Harris and nephew Gordon Caswell
Ken is survived by his sisters Ethlyn Harris of Deerfield, Rosalie Caswell of Bellevue, FL; stepdaughters Jeanne Irving and husband John of Alton Bay, NH, Theresa “Terrie” Stuart and husband James “Jim” of McDonough, GA; 11 step grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews, and several dear friends, too many to mention!
Services: a time of visitation will be held on Sunday, September 4 from 6:00-8:00 PM, with Masonic service beginning at 5:45 PM, at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, NH. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 5, 10:30 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 129 Miller Avenue, Portsmouth, NH
